Round Square

Round Square

The Regent’s School is currently the only member of the Round Square in South and South-East Asia - an elite group of schools from countries around the world. Round Square schools share a commitment to educate students in a holistic way, enhancing their personal development by providing further responsibility, both at home and overseas, through challenge, adventure and international understanding. The vision of education therefore, goes far beyond the academic in a school where academic achievement is strongly supported and greatly valued. The six Round Square IDEALS (International understanding, Democratic principles, Environmental awareness, Adventure, Leadership and Service) are highlighted in our teaching across the curriculum. This ensures that the Round Square ethos is integral to the education at our campuses and encourages our students to think creatively beyond traditional subject boundaries.

The Round Square was formed in 1966 following an initiative by King Constantine of Greece, as a tribute to the work of educational pioneer Kurt Hahn, founder of the Salem School in Germany and Gordonstoun School in Scotland. The Round Square takes its name from one of the principal buildings at Gordonstoun. Kurt Hahn’s continuing influence is also seen in the United World Colleges.

The fundamental objective of Round Square is to realise as fully as possible, the potential and the positive aspirations - academic, physical, cultural and spiritual - of every member of the school community.

Each year we select outstanding students to attend the annual international conference. In 2006, it was Gordonstoun, Scotland at the home of the movement.  Last year it was in Indore, India.  Each year, our role-model students return to lead a variety of Round Square projects at their particular campus, putting into effect the ideas and initiatives developed during their international conference. Thus the worldwide community of Round Square is regularly renewed and confirmed.

The Regent’s School, in endorsing the Round Square principles, is also actively involved in international pupil exchange programmes and the challenge of educational and adventure programmes at the School's Outdoor Education Centre on Ko Chang.

Both the students and staff really embrace the IDEALS of Round Square and look to have a very active role in Round Square activities throughout their time at The Regent’s School.  It is a great pleasure to see these values as a true strength of the school’s community.
